"Our mission is to unite a global community to celebrate geek culture and engage in the free exploration of imagination and ideas.”
This motto if Deviant Robot took me in as a fellow geek and I was more than happy to work on their brand and illustrations.
I've had a chance to work on this project with a freedom and I used my time by exploring the community itself to understand what we are supposed to create. A brand for community, that was the task!
Before we have tablets and stylus, it was all pen and paper for any design ideas. It still is the most practical option to me to visual any idea I have for projects I work on. For Deviant Robot I went back to the roots and worked on some sketches first.
Along the way there was some changes naturally but during this process I had created lots of iterations. We ended up with the idea below.
We wanted to make our primary logo available to use in any possible medium, such as digital, print, on the wall, on a badge, embroidery and even hologram! So we tested our selected idea by creating some variations.
Selecting which colours we use was appeared during this stage. We had several different products we would like to serve to community and I marked them with different colours in a badge style.
Deviant Robot is a colourful community and I wanted to test myself by working on illustrations with a theme. We decided go with a style something between retro and nostalgic and vibrant!
I created some of these pieces for the products we have (such as Podcasts, Comics, Movies etc) and then I went with the flow!
